Groundhog Day – February 2nd 2012
In Canada and the United states we celebrate Groundhog Day on February 2nd. According to the legend if the groundhog comes out of his burrow and doesn’t see his shadow it means winter is coming to an end. If he does see his shadow he’ll go back into his burrow and we’ll have six more weeks of winter!
What do you think will happen on February 2nd?
Here are a couple great kids books on Groundhog Day:
Groundhog Day! by Gail Gibbons
Learn about groundhogs and their special day.
Double trouble Groundhog Day by Bethany Roberts
When Grampie Groundhog decides to retire from forecasting the weather, he has twins Greta and Gregory draw straws to see who will take over the important job, but the winner is so nervous the two put aside their squabbling and work together.
